5 ways to use essential oils before breakfast

there is something sacred about how you choose to start your day. some of my favourite morning rituals include waking up early (like, 5 AM early!), oil pulling, meditation, yoga, aΒ gentle stretch… and more often than not,Β savouring a good cup of coffee. πŸ˜‚

the other foundations of my morning, of course, are essential oils! these are some of the best ways i’ve found to set myself up for a good day:

5 WAYS TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS BEFORE BREAKFAST

1. diffuse an uplifting citrus oil

set the tone for a good day by breathing in the bright, sweet and invigorating notes of a citrus oil like tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime or orange. because our sense of smell is connected to the limbic system, which is also the center of the brain that handles memory and emotion,Β  using essential oils aromatically offers a powerful way to quickly affect your mood

2. drink a drop of lemon essential oil

consuming lemon water first thing in the morning is a fantastic way to kick-start the metabolism and assist the liver in detoxification. because lemon essential oil is made with the rind of the fruit, it does not wear the enamel on teeth like the fresh, acidic lemon juice. other than drinking water, you could try a drop of 100% pure, therapeutic-grade oil in your morning tea or smoothie too!

3. turn your shower into an aromatic steam room

place a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil in the bottom of your shower to add vitality to your morning. bonus tip: after you’re done, towel off and give yourself a moisturizing oil massage to leave you smelling divine throughout the day [link]

4. take a drop of oil of oregano

to support overall health and wellness of your immune system, digestion and respiratory functions, take a dropper of olive oil with the oil of oregano in it under the tongue. because oregano oil is so strong in its pure form, be sure to dilute itβ€”and brace yourself for its unmistakably sharp, herbaceous flavor!

5. massage an oil of choice into your feet

the skin on the bottom of the feet is less sensitive than other areas of the body, which makes it one of the best places to apply essential oils (especially β€œhot” ones like cinnamon or oregano!). this way, they can be absorbed quickly, without sensitivity or irritation. with a carrier oil, try massaging the essential oils like cypress or black pepper into the bottoms of your feet to get energized and invigorated for the day ahead
